Last night I took a few photos of the great boards at the Grain Surfboards exhibit at Art in the Age, which opened last night. The boards are hollow in construction, and made out of Northern White Cedar. Offcuts from construction are turned into Surf Sleds and Hand Planes (those small boards with the hand hold), and extra veneer is made into some pretty slick skateboards for the asphalt ocean. Got some time on your hands before that Maine vacation? Build your own and Grain will send you all the materials plus a 170-page instruction manual (you will need it; it’s a surfboard, not an ikea bookshelf).
